"Yamaha RX-797 is the total package!" 2010-02-26
By Michael J. Anderson (Minneapolis, MN USA)
I bought this receiver on a recommendation from my friend who is an audiophile. I have it driving a pair of Definitive Technology Mythos ST SuperTowers. The sound is clean and punchy. It's very hard to find a 2 channel receiver with support for a second zone, which is what I needed. I couldn't be happier with this quality product from Yamaha. Will be buying two more to power additional zones in my whole-home audio system.

"Yamaha EX2000 is a real pleasure to use" 2010-06-18
By L. Whister
In my humble opnion, the sound quality is good, especially on the grand piano mode. The song list is long and diverse. It includes many classics from Beethoven to The Beatles. Although the piano just "sits on" the accompanying stand, it is sturdy and the keyboard stays put. Have not had a problem with the headphones. If I could add anything on to this product it would be some kind of light indicating that the piano is turned on. My kids tend to forget to turn it off. All in all, this package is a nice value and quality made. I bought this for my daughter to practice her piano lessons on. It arrived within two days and seems to be very well-made. I particularly like that this has full-sized keys that are touch-sensitive, which is very important when first learning to play. The keys light up when played, which I thought was a little hokey at first, but soon discovered that it really does help my daughter find and retain the notes.

 "ipod dock" 2010-07-01

Use caution when removing/inserting ipod to dock. First one broke after a few months b/c my children handled it a bit too aggressively. Would use this supplier again. Arrived sooner than expected and the price was the best.

"Inexpensive, pre outs, works as I wanted it too." 2010-07-01
By Ace Cool (Granite Bay, California)
I purchased this receiver for the pre-outs, HDMI switching and the relatively cheap price, I think I paid $289. It works even better than I had hoped as far as passing the HDMI signal straihgt to the TV speakers when the receiver is not turned on, a feature that works great if you have someone who also uses the TV, video, Wii etc and don't ever learn how to make things work. In this case, my wife did not even know we had a receiver. I have not used the amplifier in this receiver, just a old 5 channel amp connected to the pre-outs. It has surpassed my expectations.

 "great for the money" 2010-04-28
By C. Nee
great speakers!!, i set it up in condo and its plenty loud for that application if your want to setup a dedicated hometheater room i would suggest spending more.

I think is great for any condo/appartment due to is very small size and good sound quality, i have also set up a hometheater using klipsch and jbl studio series speaker which cost over $3000 for spekers alone, and i can tell you that this is the best setup for the money

 "Great Product, but..." 2010-04-13
By Sydney
I bought this product and I am very happy with it so far. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is, like another person who reviewed, I did not receive the power supply that it says it comes with. It is also included in the picture of the product. However, I am still happy with it, and would recommend it.

 "Very disappointed" 2010-02-21
By doublespiral
I have owned Yamaha products for decades. Very few of them, in fact, because they have always been reliable and have lasted forever. So it was an easy choice when I needed a new receiver/amplifier. I didn't seriously consider any other brands. I've always found Yamaha's product to be solidly built, high-quality, and good value. Unfortunately, I have had a bad experience with this unit. I hope that it is an isolated incident.

I purchased this receiver in October of 2009 and took it with me to install at my business in Mexico. From the beginning I had difficulty get components to work well with it. At first I blamed my speakers, but tested with another receiver and they were fine. I upgraded connection cables and seated them as well as I could and finally got decent sound if they were pressed in just right. All was fine for the moment.

Then just last week, the receiver went dead and began to smell when turned on. Quite literally, something fried. It is not a problem with the electricity because all other items work fine, and it is plugged into an advanced solar-electric system generating perfect sine wave AC (I'm not hooked to the Mexican grid).

Because I am in Mexico, there is no easy way to get warranty work on it without bringing it back to the US, something I may have to do if I can't find some type of repair service here. Overall, I'm very disappointed to have spent the time and effort and had the equipment last barely a few months. Again, I hope this receiver is the anomaly because I have heretofore held Yamaha in high esteem.
