 "Disappointed" 2010-07-14
By Barbara G (San Francisco)
I bought this antenna to use with a LCD HDTV I installed in the guest room. While it gets most channels, it can not seem to receive the one channel I watch most, which is 33 miles away in San Jose. An old analog TV with a converter box and rabbit ears is able to receive that station, so I'm not terribly impressed with the amplification capability of the antenna. The reception is exactly the same whether the antenna is "on" "off" or unplugged! I've moved the antenna around in every position possible, and it's near a window and skylight, so I can't understand why it doesn't receive that channel. Perhaps I got a dud, but I'm less than thrilled with this product.

Its a substantial sized object. Without any electrical connections it pulls in tv signal with ease.its unidirectional so you are gonna have to aim it just right. It works very well for the price. I would recommend this antenna for anyone. It works that well.

"Does not work in middle of Miami-Dade Co, Fl" 2010-07-14
By E. J. Williams (Miami, Fl United States)
Living in hurricane-alley, I was really hoping this antenna would work so I could avoid putting up an outdoor antenna. Unfortunately, this antenna picked up only one station and that was tenuous at best. My old amplified UHF/VHF rabbit ears antenna will actually pick up most of the UHF stations well - with adjustments, but not the sole VHF station (channel 10). All television broadcast stations available to Miami-Dade County, Florida are in the same direction about 15 miles north of my home. This antenna claims to be capable of receiving signals 30 miles away. Well it is evidently a little more complicated than that.

The Winegard SS-3000 is color coded for the CEA "yellow" antenna zone, and I wish Amazon would go the extra step and put that in the description. It can be found on the Winegard manufacturer's web site. Before buying this antenna for your home based on the great reviews, I would advise someone to take the time to look up the color-coded HDTV antenna CEA (Consumer Electronics Association)zone(s) for your specific home. There are a number of online web sites where you can type in your address and get the zones for your home. If I had realized that this antenna's zone was rated "yellow" when my area needs a "red", I would not have bothered trying it out.

Also be aware that some antennas receive UHF broadcasts only. You will need to know if your television stations are broadcasting in UHF or VHF and those same CEA zone look-up web sites will help with that as well. Some stations might even switch from one to the other over time. One last tip, make sure you scan the channels on the antenna input for your television after you have set up the antenna. The first time I hooked up my rabbit ears, I thought they did not work at all, until I re-scanned the channels so it could find the new digital broadcasts.

Obviously some are very happy with this purchase, but I suspect it is because their area is within the antenna's capabilities. Distance from the broadcast stations is not the only criteria for categorizing an antenna's reception ability. I looked up antenna installers in our area and found a company to install an outdoor antenna which will work in our area. I am considering a telescoping antenna mast, so I can at least lower it closer to the roof line during high winds. Even with installation costs, I am looking forward to dumping the monthly cable bill.

 "Pleasantly surprised" 2010-07-08
By Shawn
I live in Los Angeles, surrounded by hills, and I was never able to get decent TV reception in the old (pre-digital) days with a rooftop antenna. I didn't have much hope that I would get any reception from this indoor antenna, but I just had to give it a try. Boy, was I surprised! I get signals in the 80+ range for about 25 channels, in the 70+ range for another 25 channels, and in the 60+ range (still pretty clear) for another 25 channels; 75 viewable channels in all, including ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, KCAL, KCOP, KTLA, etc, all in HD.

I did have to spend some time trying different locations. I finally picked a point high on the wall facing in the general direction of Mt. Wilson. Using the adjacent wall (perpendicular) did not produce as-good results.

I also tried the Antennas Direct DB4 Multi-Directional HDTV Antenna Antennas Direct DB4 Multi-Directional HDTV Antennaand the Terk HDTVa Amplified antennaTerk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception. Neither worked nearly as well as this one.

 "Works well for me" 2010-03-24
By Doug (New Jersey, USA)
This powered antennae has worked well for me across the years (watched almost the entire 2010 winter olympics with it). It sits stably on a table near the window and is not in the way. It picks up HD signals from variety of stations pretty well and has a center movable section that can turned to improve a signal without shifting the entire unit.

 "Excellent UHF-HD Indoor Antenna" 2009-12-16
By D. Pittari
I already had two of these in use... with an A-B switch for receiving signals from two different directions. My neighbor was having trouble receiving over-the-air HD broadcast signals so I ordered one for him. He's getting excellent reception now... no complaints.
